Plantains .. That looks strange Green banana thing that nobody ever knows what the hell to do with it. A couple of years ago I bought a plantain and tried to eat raw and absolutely ruined me. I did not touch them again because I still had that horrible taste in the mouth startchy * gags *
PS: you must cook
A couple of months ago, but I became very interested in the Paleo diet (I hate the word diet rather how to eat Paleo) and saw a lot of people that incorporate plantains into recipes. I immediately felt overwhelmed and thought “that’s too much work you really can not do that,” After seeing a lot of delicious Plantain recipes and read about the benefits of consuming this rare cousin of the plantain I decided to give it another try.
Let me first day plantains are really good for you. Good source of fiber, calcium and vitamin C! They are a amazing alternative for many recipes. Paleo not allow most startches as bread, potatoes, rice. But bananas ( plantains ) are good. Along with things like sweet potatoes, turnips and rutabagas.
When I was packing to Auria and snacks for our flight to Nevada today I saw out of the corner of my eyes two plantains that had not been used. I hate losing things. So I thought: Hey! Plantain chips! They are easy and I can throw in our bag so we can chew them on the plane. Plus they are a lot better than regular chips of any kind, according option?
Super easy paleo plantain chips
First set the oven to 350 degrees and let it preheat while preparing
Cut the ends of the Plantain ( Green banana ) out and do a couple of slices of plantain why you can easily peel
I then tossed my plantains in coconut oil before laying them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet
They usually take about 18 minutes to cook, remove and begin to brown slightly
I immediately threw me back into a bowl and threw cinnamon to give it a little extra something 🙂
